Stop Gov. Abbott’s Nominee for Texas Secretary of State

Tell your state officials to vote NO on the confirmation of David Whitley for the highest office of election integrity.

Texas conservatives are trying to limit voting by using bad data to justify suppressing the right to vote of naturalized citizens.

This parade of bad data is being used to justify bills in the Texas Legislature that will make it harder for regular citizens to register and vote. These actions deny many Texans their right to vote, and the Secretary of State confirmation threatens Texas election integrity. It’s no surprise that an Abbott appointment continues a voter suppression agenda by threatening the voting rights of tens of thousands of Texans.

The nominee for Secretary of State is so bad at this job that his actions will get shot down in court for years. Even the conservative courts are going to send him packing.

We need leaders who will think of how to promote voting, not those who are seeking to stop voting.

Background

Last week the Texas Secretary of State went through 22 years of voting records to gin up a story that non-citizens may have voted, and then notified local officials that many of the names on the list are actually citizens who just so happened to register to vote at the DMV and do not belong on the list.

What a mess. The Secretary of State used flawed data, issued a threat, and now thousands of citizens could lose their voter registration because they fail to prove what they’ve already proven.
